# Install the app and get notifications

> Install Benevolus on your home screen and turn on notifications so you never miss a time slot.

Benevolus installs on your phone like an app. You open it in one tap from your home screen, and you get the notifications from your organisations.

## Install the app

### On iPhone and iPad

Installing goes through Safari. Other browsers cannot add an app to the home screen.

    Go to `app.benevolus.ch` and sign in.

  <Step title="Tap Share">
    The button sits at the bottom of the screen.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose “Add to Home Screen”">
    Scroll down the list until you reach that line.

  <Step title="Tap “Add”">
    Top right. The Benevolus icon appears on your home screen.

### On Android

    Go to `app.benevolus.ch` and sign in.

  <Step title="Open the browser menu">
    The three-dot button, top right.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose “Install app”">
    Depending on your browser version, the line reads “Add to Home screen”.

<Note>
  If you opened Benevolus from Instagram, Gmail or another app, installing is not offered. Open the link in Safari or Chrome, then start again.
</Note>

Benevolus also offers to install itself, with a banner at the bottom of the screen.

## Turn on notifications

<Note>
  On iPhone and iPad, notifications only work once the app is installed on the home screen.
</Note>

  <Step title="Open your profile">
    Go to the **Notifications** section.

  <Step title="Click Enable">
    Your phone asks for permission. Accept it.
  </Step>

<Note>
  Turning them on applies **to the device you are using**. If you use Benevolus on your phone and on your computer, turn notifications on for each one.

## What you receive

| Information                    | When                                                            | How                    |
| ------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------- |
| New event                      | An organiser publishes an event and tells their members         | Notification and email |
| Reminder                       | An organiser follows up with members who have not signed up yet | Email                  |
| Today plan                     | Every morning, if you have a time slot that day                 | Email                  |
| Weekly summary                 | On Mondays, if you are a Responsible of an organisation         | Email                  |
| Message from your organisation | A coordinator writes to their members                           | Notification and email |

In your profile, choose for each type whether you want to receive it.

<Tip>
  Nothing comes through any more? Check that notifications are not blocked in your browser or phone settings. Once blocked, Benevolus cannot ask you again.
