# Rest time and limits per post

> Keep a volunteer from chaining time slots without a break, and let the most popular posts rotate.

Your most motivated volunteers sometimes take every available time slot, and risk burning out. Two rules, in the event's **Settings** tab, prevent this: **rest time** and **limits per post**. Both are free and off by default.

<Note>
  You must be a **Coordinator** or a **Responsible** of the organisation.
</Note>

## Turn on rest time

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the event settings">
    Open the event, then the **Settings** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Turn on rest time">
    Under **Rest time**, turn on the switch. Three values appear, already filled in. Change them if needed: each change is saved right away.

    * **Maximum in a row** (8 h by default): the longest a run of time slots can last, from the start of the first to the end of the last.
    * **Minimum break** (1 h by default): two time slots with a shorter break between them form a single run.
    * **Maximum over 24 h** (12 h by default): the total volunteering time over any 24-hour period.

    </Frame>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check the overruns">
    The rule removes no one from time slots already taken. Below the three values, **Overruns** lists the volunteers already past it, with their time slots. To fix it, click a time slot, expand **Registered volunteers** and remove the volunteer.
  </Step>
</Steps>

A single time slot is always allowed, even if it lasts longer than the maximum in a row: the rule only stops volunteers from chaining slots. Only this event's time slots count.

## Limit the time slots of a post

On a popular post, limit how many time slots the same volunteer can take, so everyone gets a chance.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Turn on the post's limit">
    In the **Settings** tab, under **Limits per post**, turn on the post's switch. The limit starts at 1 time slot per volunteer.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Adjust the number of time slots">
    Type the number you want, then press **Enter**. On the post, a badge shows the limit, for example **2 slots max per volunteer**. Click it to come back to this setting.

  </Step>
</Steps>

## Who the rules apply to

The rules block Volunteers who sign up themselves. The rest time is shown at the top of the event page, and when a time slot would break a rule, Benevolus tells the volunteer why they cannot sign up for it.

You can override them: when you add a volunteer with **Add a volunteer**, or sign up yourself, Benevolus flags the rule being broken, but lets you go ahead.
